Basic Graph Example Solution

Determine of the following properties of the graph shown below. (Write your responses on a separate sheet of paper.)

  • Intercepts; list the x- and y-coordinates. ==> (-3,0), (0,0), (3.5,0) approimately

  • Intervals over which the graph is increasing. ==> (-1, -2) to (2, 1) and (4,1) to (5,2)

  • Intervals over which the graph is decreasing.  ==> (-4, 5) to (-1, -2) and close to (1, 2) to (4, -3)

  • The x-coordinate of any jumps. ==> x = 4

  • The x- and y-coordinates of any missing points.  ==> (2, 1) and (4, -2)

  • Is it possible to trace the graph without lifting your pencil? Explain you answer. ==> No. We having a missing points and a jump which causes us to lift the pencil when tracing.

  • Domain. ==> -4 to 5, with 2 missing points.

  • Range.  ==> -2 to 5 with 2 missing points.
